ABEC – A Healthy Addition to Kells

The injection of a new and progressive company is a healthy addition to any town and ABEC is no exception. Having been in operation for 45 years – in 2015 – ABEC acquired what was formerly Kells Stainless, a leading fabricator of high quality stainless steel vessels and equipment. Founded in 1974 by Jack Wilson, ABEC is a leader in delivering integrated process solutions and services for manufacturing in the biopharmaceutical industry. A majority of the world’s pharmaceutical and biotech companies are ABEC customers, with many of today’s leading therapies manufactured by equipment (stainless steel and single-use) engineered, manufactured, installed and serviced by ABEC.

ABEC’s headquarters are located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with additional engineering and manufacturing facilities in Springfield, Missouri and closer to home in Fermoy, Co. Cork. The addition of Kells Stainless “was a natural fit to ABEC’s growth — in resources, capability and capacity,” explains Adrian Hennessy, Applications Director of ABEC (Europe) given both companies provide expertise in manufacturing customized stainless steel vessels and equipment. Integrating a large percentage of the highly skilled Kells Stainless workforce, today there are several employees having over 25 years’ of employment working for both Kells and ABEC. With ABEC Kells firmly on the map and servicing an expanding customer base worldwide, ABEC aims to grow its workforce creating further employment in the local area.

A position within the company offers both professional and personal reward, with prospective employees enjoying opportunities in travel, further education and career advancement. Being part of the Global Install Teams in Ireland and around Europe has afforded some of the Kells based employees having the opportunity to visit ABEC’s US sites and customer sites around the world.  In-house educational incentives include on-site training in the form of apprenticeships and internships with employees qualifying to the highest standards pertaining to European, US and Chinese regulations.
